Just listening to 3/1/69. Great show, but Hey Jude doesn't work for me - not a good finish to the show. I can't think when it ever did work.

Any suggestions for a good Hey Jude?

There was probably a time when they were going to play it, but decided to play something else instead. It would be that one.

Sorry, not a fan of GD doing Beatles. Except for Why Don't We Do It In the Road. The best one of that is here:

Although I suspect I'm a fan club of one.

I like the Rain encore from 3-18-95. I also like It's All Too Much from this night as well (it's like cotton candy). The vid that they have of this night is pretty haunting. Starving Time in late winter.

The Fantasy/Hey Jude from Foxboro '89 was a bfd at the time. Lots of sources for that show, but not a winner in the bunch (so far).
And then there is this,

E- I think Strat. is mostly right on this one.

Try the Beatles s ... (HAR, HAR )...
I think this encore is extemporaneous . In my minds ear I can hear him sing it, but he hasn't worked it out , and ... oh well. Not nuts about Brent's stab(s?) at it , or the reprise on the end of "Dear Mr. Fantasy" . But it is great song, and I have always taken these kind of covers as a tip of the hat .

D squared, you get extra credit just for using "extemporaneous" in a post.

it always sucked, especially 03-01-69, if a gun was pointed at my head then 10-09-1989 is the best dead version...

Never understood a band not known for its vocal prowess covering tunes by a band that had perhaps the best harmonies and lead vocals in rock history.

Huge mistake on nearly every account (find the '88 "Blackbird" "performance" if you REALLY want to make John and George roll over in their respectives_...)

That said, the 7/2/89 Foxboro "Jude" probably comes closest to being OK...the "fantasy" preceding it is much better, though.

my favorite Hey Jude is also probably their worst. Its so bad that some of the guys actually start giggling through it, I forget which show it was but it was 89

Well, the second one was the best I ever saw, 9-7-85 at The Rocks.

But like many many GD experiences you had to be there to get the real effect.

After two sub par and disappointing shows, especially the 6th, which I stuck my tongue out at Jerry after his return from "fixing" his problem; the 3rd day Fantasy/Hey Jude was a worthy combo to lift the weekend. Better than the usual 80's Black Pete.

On a completely different tangent, I think I may have found your IA tag line theme song.
